WHY THIS WORKSHOP:
This workshop is designed to give professional photographers and committed amateur photographers opportunities to work and study with one of the most forward thinking, enterprising, and talented working photojournalist today. The Ron Haviv workshops are intense and intimate affairs, providing students with complete access to the photographer and the ability to take advantage of his work experience, teachings, methodologies and contacts.
The primary focus of the Workshop is to help strengthen personal vision, authorship, and story telling.
This Workshop is for photographers who are seeking to advance their work, redirect their focus or take their storytelling to another level. All applicants must have an understanding of the technical aspects of digital photography, including editing software. The Workshops do not provide cameras or laptop computers. Students are expected to come prepared as if they were shooting a real assignment.
RON'S DESCRIPTION OF THE WORKSHOP:
During this four-day workshop participants will explore the different approaches to story telling. They will learn what is required of a photojournalist, not just in the field but also when it comes to having work published. Developing a personal sensitivity and visual style will be emphasized and I will encourage participants to work using their instinct rather than formula. I will share with the group my own work and my experience as a photojournalist in conflict and crisis areas.
Participants should bring a portfolio of their best work to the first session of the workshop. Through portfolio reviews each person's narrative direction will be discovered and then developed through assignments given during the workshop. With daily editing sessions, both in a group setting and individually, each student will be able to define their personal path in
photography.
I will help you understand the pulse of international journalism today and share my tips on what it takes to cover the world scene. You will leave with a clearer understanding of your next step and be well along the way to defining your personal path forward.
